As I sit watching the clock, wondering what this new year will bring, I’m excited just like a child. When I was younger growing up in the South, as the end of the year came down to hours before a new year was too be. My mother and grandmother would prepare small snacks and we would get ready to watch the old year out and the new year in, this was a family tradition. As we left our home to go to our church for this festive event that would be filled with children playing, the chour singing, old friends catching up on small talk or gossip, you decide. I was just a child with an imaginative mind, I wanted to see where was this old year going and what exactly was the new year suppose to look like, I waited and waited and waited. The minutes turned into seconds and as the clock stroke midnight, the choir would sing and give hugs and prayers and then everyone would say Happy New Year. Well at that moment the old year felt like the new year so where did it go, I wondered! As I got older I learned, thank God for that, now I’m just thankful for each and every day because everyday is truly a gift from God. As the minutes of this year slowly begin to wind down, I will remember my mom, my grandmother and those who are no longer here with a prayer and hug and thank God for the blessings that he has bestowed in my life. Happy 2012, may this new year be very properous to each and every one.
